Our History

Embarking on our 25th year of making music, Diversity: The Voices of Sarasota has faced the challenges and disappointments of the last few years by revealing our inner strength and power that comes with joining together to fight the common enemy, COVID. Throughout this time, we at Diversity have continued to experience tremendous love and support from our family, friends and loyal followers.

  • December of 1997, the Gulf Coast Men's Chorus, now Diversity: The Voices of Sarasota, debuted as guests of the Tampa Bay Gay Men's Chorus at the Players Theatre in Sarasota.

  • November 2005, the first women joined as, Harmony the Voices of Sarasota.

  • December 2008, the Gulf Coast Men’s Chorus and Harmony the Voices of Sarasota merged to become Diversity: The Voices of Sarasota.

  • Diversity has performed in Sarasota, Miami, Bradenton, Key West, Venice, Fort Meyers and Tampa. The chorus has also participated in the International GALA Festivals in San Jose, Montreal, Miami, and Denver.

  • 2010, Diversity performed at Carnegie Hall for "Sing For The Cure".

  • August 2019, Diversity has been under the direction of Chris Romeo who has through his youth, talent and enthusiasm energized our singers and plotted a course for success.

  • June 2020 and 2022, Diversity performed the National Anthem for Major League Baseball Pirates affiliate, Marauders at Lecom Stadium.
