Singer Spotlight

Meet Jeff
What is your earliest memory of singing or making music?
Music has been part of my life for as long as I can remember! In fact, my grandfather was an accomplished musician and could play many different instruments. Unfortunately, I didn't inherit those talents but discovered I have a talent for singing instead.
What does singing in Diversity give you that you don’t get anywhere else?
Singing with our chorus feeds my soul in so many ways! It really does feel like a family and the camaraderie boosts my mood whenever we're together. The beautiful music we make and the love we receive from our audiences also makes me happy and proud. And, by just simply existing, Diversity continues to be an important presence representing our LGBTQ+ community and allies.
Is there a song or piece of music that feels especially meaningful to you? Why?
I would have to say "Love has Always Been Our Song." It really speaks to the bond our chorus members share with one another – and to our desire to spread and encourage love rather than hate and negativity in our world.
Do you have a favorite Diversity chorus memory so far?
I still laugh about the time one of our small ensembles sang "I Feel Pretty" and I was anything but – wearing a floral thrift store housecoat, earrings crafted from empty beer cans, and a smile with several teeth blacked out. I think the people in the front row almost fell out of their seats! And of course, our performances at each GALA choral festival are among my favorite memories.
What might surprise people to learn about you?
A lot of people are amazed by my knowledge of local plants and animals. I've always been curious and inquisitive about nature, and I was fortunate to enjoy a fantastic 39-year career protecting and managing parks and preserves in central and south Florida. During my career, I was able to visit some of Florida's most beautiful natural areas and learn so much.
