Singer Profile

Meet TJ

What is your earliest memory of singing or making music?

Gosh, music was always played in my house growing up. I also started in community theater when I was very young, 6 or 7 years old. Music is ingrained in me.

What first drew you to join Diversity: The Voices of Sarasota?

I had a friend from high school who continued making music later in life in a fun, spunky community band, “Minor Mishap Band.” She passed away, and after I finished my Master's degree, I vowed to get back to singing. I stumbled upon Diversity’s Facebook page and I was drawn instantly to the vibe.

What does singing in Diversity give you that you don’t get anywhere else?

Rich community rooted in love, compassion, advocacy and music.

What part do you sing, and what do you love most about it?

Soprano, so I usually have the melody (I give props to all the other parts who have such skill to do the harmony). Also, the soprano jokes are hilarious!

Do you have a favorite Diversity chorus memory so far—onstage or off?

It’s hard to have a favorite when being together is always a treat. But the times when the audience has stood up and joined us in song are definitely highlights!

When you’re not singing, how do you like to spend your time?

I have an eclectic variety of hobbies… spending time in nature; making dollhouse miniatures; watching movies; just hanging out with family and friends.

If you could describe singing in one word or short phrase, what would it be?

Soul-filling
